Sans Vs The Judge (Undertale Vs OFF)

"Do not wait for the last judgment. It comes every day." - Albert Camus

sans. undertale's jokester bone man!

Pablo, The Judge and Guardian of Zone 0 form OFF!

You know what they say: karma is a bitch. If you do good things, good things happen to you. If you do bad things, bad things happen to you. The judgment of the universe on your actions can be quite cruel at times, and speaking of judgment. We have two judges today who have lost everything but still persevered to fight against you. Yes, you, the player. Will Sans be completly boned and turned into a pile of dust, or will the Judge have a bad time? Time to find out!

Before We Start…
This is an extremely simple matchup; both will be given their original games (Sans will also get Deltarune, but that doesn't change much), and just for fun, a few pieces of promo art and art books, with "Legends of Localization Book 3: UNDERTALE" being the exception due to pretty much none of the statements there being canon. The Judge will also get Q&As, Mortis Ghost DeviantArt, and other statements made in various other places. And of course this is being written before the full OFF switch port or the OFF comic book, and The Judge will likely get something new there, but we have no real way of knowing what, at least for now. i was planning on reading "Debug". a magazine which gave more information about the remake, but i couldn't find anywhere to read it so that will sadly be left out.

And yes, I am aware that a blog about this matchup already exists. When I learned about it, I was already midway through the research, so there will be some similarities since, well, it's the same matchup, but I assure you that there will be no plagiarism involved as I choose not to read it in its entirety with the only exceptions being a few calcs and a before the verdict section talking about MFTL OFF, which will all be credited. Alongside all the Blogs, Calcs and Wiki Pages used in this blog.

Oh, one more thing: while The Player technically helps The Judge in one of the endings, we are obviously not including him, especially since, unlike The Batter, The Player isn't guiding and helping The Judge the entire game; it just doesn't feel right or fair. We will, however, still give Judge all the equipment he obtained in the special ending.

Background
Sans
"heheh... the old whoopee cushion in the hand trick,it's always funny."

Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: humans and monsters. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell. After the war, the monsters retreated into the deepest part of the Underground, which they called "Home." After a period had passed, fearing the humans no longer, they populated the rest of the Underground and made their capital in a place they called "New Home."

Monsters mostly blamed the war on humanity and took a vengeful look at the human race. This bitterness, especially after the death of Asriel and his adopted sibling Chara, led King Asgore to declare war against humanity, installing a policy to kill all humans that fell into the Underground and eradicate humans once the seven SOULs needed to break the barrier are collected. One day, a human known as Frisk fell into the underground. With the power to reset timelines, the human was presented with a choice: fight or mercy.

They were a beacon of hope in the underground, befriending every monster they saw, which included Sans and Papyrus, two skeleton brothers who mysteriously appeared and just made themselves home in the peaceful town of Snowdin. Unlike his brother, Sans has no real interest in capturing humans, though Papyrus never really means any harm. From then on, Sans is constantly looking out for them, due to a promise he made to the guardian of the ruins, Toriel, to protect Frisk.

Sans then meets the human at the last corridor, who praises the human for not killing anyone. At the end of Frisk's journey, the human was even able to save Asgore and Toriel's dead child, Asriel, who was about to reset everything with the powers of a god. Frisk was able to convince him to use this power for good and set the monsters free, which did result in him becoming a flower again. And everyone lived happily ever after.

But...what if Frisk used their powers to destroy rather than save? Well, killing has consequences. As Frisk went through the underground, dust could be heard flying in the wind, which included the dust of Sans's own brother, Papyrus. If you choose to kill every single monster, Sans will confront you at the last corridor, as Sans fought to at least make the human give up, for he knew their existence could put the entire world in danger. It was all useless in the end; as a slash hit his stomach, Sans was turned to dust. And soon so were the king of the monsters and his son that was inhabiting the body of a flower. The tale of this world had finally come to a close.

The Judge
"There cannot be any other living beings in zone 0, so I must assume that you are only a mere figment of my imagination."

A long time ago an unknown conflict brought the world to its knees; very few survived, and the world had come to its end. Thankfully, one of these survivors was a young boy named Hugo, who could fix the world and make it like it was before its end. The child created Vader Eloha, his new mother, and The Batter, who abandoned him, his new father. With the help of his mother/creation that inherited his powers. 4 Guardians were made. Dedan, Japhet, Enoch, and the Judge, who decided to isolate himself in a dead zone, with no life, for he knew the truth of the world that the others did not.

A long time passed. And one day, the Judge found The Batter aka Hugo's father, who was being guided by a Puppeteer on a mission to purify the world. The Batter then informed the Judge of his objective, who decided to help the mysterious entity, aiding the Batter and providing tutorials on combat and puzzles. After leaving Zone 0, the Batter went from zone to zone. Killing its guardians and purifying it, which consequently killed all of its inhabitants. After reaching Zone 2, The Batter came face-to-face with The Judge's missing brother, Valérie, or at least his body.

The feline tried to eat Japhet; however, as Japhet could neither be killed nor escape, the guardian of Zone 2 killed and took control of its new host. Forcing The Batter to kill Valérie, so that his purification mission could be completed. leaving The Judge to reconsider everything The Batter had done after grieving for his brother for a while.

The Batter continued on his mission, killing Enoch, the Queen, and finally Hugo. And just before he was about to flick the switch and put an end to the world, The Judge confronted him after realizing that The Batter all along had been a genocidal murderer, offering The Player an option: join his side and stop The Batter once and for all. Sadly, the player refused, even though the feline tried to fight back, he failed and was killed, as the purifier smashed his head with a bat without mercy. As the Batter flicked the switch, everything came to an end. The entire world that has been built in the ruins of the old is gone in an instant. However if you do choose to join The Judge, The Batter's reign of terror comes to a end but not without a price, as the world was slowly dying so, in the end, was it even worth it?

Experience And Skill
Sans
Despite his exceedingly laid-back attitude and status as "the easiest enemy." Sans is far from an idiot. On the contrary, he's surprisingly smart both tactically and even scientifically, if his workshop is any indication. Having multiple quantum physics books and various blueprints of inventions. And Papyrus has even stated he studies astronomy. Meaning he's everything but stupid, he also has a deep knowledge of timelines, conducting research and reports on them, and being one of the only characters to understand such topics, even discovering how saves and resets work. He also seems to have worked with Alphys before, with him knowing about her amalgamates

He's especially good combat-wise, even though he doesn't like to fight much. By using his knowledge of how the world operates to make his attacks as unfair and unpredictable as possible, he has also fought Flowey on multiple occasions and won prior to the game's beginning even though Flowey did not have a soul. He holds a very important position as a judge and does a surprisingly good job at it too. Being able to read people's facial expressions like a book and even being able to trick a genocidal Frisk into sparing him. Speaking of jobs, Sans has dozens of jobs all over the underground, some of them being quite impressive positions to have, such as a comedian at the MTT resort or as a member of the royal guard.

The Judge
The Judge knows a lot about not only the world around him and how it operates but also the mechanics of the very game of OFF itself. even knowing about the plater and being seemingly smarter than The Batter himself, which makes sense considering he constantly helps with puzzles. Speaking of puzzles, The Batter could solve all the game's puzzles with ease and develop tactics to place himself at an advantage, such as running away from Enoch to tire him out. But he's not only smarter than The Batter mentally; he's also the one who teaches him the basics of combat, and he was able to keep up with him combat-wise even though he was technically outnumbered due to his add-ons.

Equipment
Sans

Strange devices in the shape of skulls that fire powerful lasers from their mouths. They come in various sizes and will often be used in numbers, They can even home in on the enemy. With its lasers being able to reach 18 meters of range.

Ketchup
Sans's favorite food and no he dosen't put it on anything, he straight up drinks it raw.

Hot Dogs...?

It also comes with a "Hot Cat" variant that is...basically the exact same thing but with cat ears in it. But since Sans isn't human, it basically works like a normal hotdog without healing properties.

Pranking Equipment
When he's not working, he's either sleeping or tricking people with pranks, and he has the right tools for the job.
Bike

Powers and Abilities
Sans
Game Mechanics
The world of Undertale seems to work on RPG mechanics, with these mechanics being canon in-universe and consistently being referenced, upon entering into combat with a monster. The Player will presented with the options seen above, the way it works is, you choose what to do in your turn, be it use a item, fight or even show mercy and when the monster has its turn, they will attack your soul directly. Putting you into this bullet-hell box and attacking you with their magic, when you are inside this box, you can't select any of your options and must dodge their attacks and await your turn.

Monster Physiology
Unlike Humans, whose SOULs are independent from their body, and thus can persist after death, the Monsters' SOULs are much weaker given that they're linked to their body, thus when they die their SOUL disappears as well, with the exception of the Boss Monsters, whose SOUL can last a bit more after their death, the boddies of monsters are also composed of mainly magic and have very little physical matter. Besides those notable differences between humans and monsters, there are a few notable abilities that every monster has which come in handy very often.

Magic: Monsters are able to use their magic in various ways, like making bullet patterns, which are showcased in most of their fights, with them also being able to control said magic.

Non-Physical Interaction: Monsters' magic is showcased to be able to actually harm Mad Dummy, who couldn't be damaged from Frisk because of their true body being incorporeal, thus immune to their attacks.

Soul Manipulation: Monsters' magic attacks the SOUL, which is the essence of one's being. Some monsters can also manipulate the SOUL of their opponent, though inflicting status effects, such as making it heavier or unable to walk away from a point in the area.

Soul Absorption: Monsters can absorb the SOUL of a defeated human, transforming into a "horrible beast of unfathomable power," with their power greatly increasing the more SOULs they absorb, as a monster with 7 human SOULs is described as being a god who can destroy the barrier. They can also feel both the emotions and hearts of the SOULs inside of them.

Creation: Monsters' magic can create real objects that are tangible.

Longevity: Monsters' lifespan is implied to be at least thousands of years. Examples are Gerson, who is still alive after participating in the war between humans and monsters, whose result has left the latter imprisoned in the underground for millennia, or the Dogi, who went second in the Nose-Nuzzle competition of '98 against Asgore and Toriel, with said competition happening before Toriel's self-isolation in the ruins, which happened after Chara's fall in the Underground in 201X and lasted likely 100 years.

Bone Attacks
Sans can send a massive amount of bones at his opponent, mixing them up in complicated patterns and speeds and forcing the player to jump through extremely small gaps, dodge bones that thrust out of surfaces, or jump over pits full of dozens of them. Sans can also throw in blue bones, which can only hurt the player if they try to move as opposed to allowing it to pass harmlessly. And finally, if you do choose to spare Sans, he will trap you in a bone cage, resulting in an unavoidable game over.

Blue Mode
Throughout Undertale, various boss monsters possess magic that can alter the color of Frisk's SOUL. Similar to his brother, Sans possesses the ability to turn the SOUL blue, applying gravity to it and forcing them to jump to avoid his attacks. An ability that only Sans has showcased however, is being able to fling it around.

Platform Creation
Sans uses many different sorts of platforms in his attacks.

Special Attack
Sans's special attack is...are you ready? It's a good one. Absolutely nothing, well, kind of. Due to game mechanics, you can only attack your opponent after he has finished their turn, but Sans has a funny way to exploit this. By never taking their turn, Sans essentially removes the player's ability to do anything at all, though it can be bypassed by simply breaking the combat system.

KARMA
Whatever is struck by one of Sans' attacks will suffer from this condition for a brief period, completely ignoring durability. It essentially functions as poison damage for one's SOUL and body, even bypassing invulnerability frames. KARMA cannot exceed 40 and also cannot cause the player's HP to fall below one; the more KARMA damage is built up, the faster it drains.

Teleportation
This ability is surprisingly consistent; Sans has shown himself capable of creating "shortcuts" to faraway locations, and during his battle, he will also teleport his opponent into the path of a new attack or teleport them in place if they go for the fight option. with a range of 1.5 km.

Time Stop
During his talk with Frisk at Grillby's, Sans was able to seemingly stop time.

Spatial Manipulation
Law Manipulation
As we have stated, Undertale works on RPG mechanics, but Sans can somehow manipulate these mechanics in his favor. Attacking from the menu and within the very idea of doing actions, skipping his own dialogue, and even attacking first.

Instinctive Reactions
He was capable of dodging attacks while he was deep asleep, only getting hit when Frisk broke the game's combat system.

Clairvoyance
Sans is able to somehow sense Frisk's LOVE/EXP and tell the exact number of times Frisk has died or if he was able to trick you and even if you have killed him before despite having little to no memory of resets.

 4th Wall Awareness
Sans is constantly winking to the camera, and if you try to cheat your way through Undertale, Sans will immediately stop you and confront you for being a dirty hacker. Not to mention straight up being aware he's in a demo of the game.

The Judge
Game Mechanics
I once again warn you to keep these in mind; they are very important. Much like Undertale, the OFF combat system is canon and exists in-universe, though only a few people like The Judge know of its existence. You and your opponent will be placed on different sides of the screen, with your opponent being on the left and you on the right. You can either play the game traditionally with you making the decisions or let your computer play for you with the "auto" mode. Although that doesn't really matter much for this specific matchup.

What is important is that, unlike most RPGs, OFF doesn't take turns. instead of relying on a "cooldown" system. Allowing both players and enemies to attack simultaneously. When you take control of The Judge in the ending, he has a UI very similar to The Batter, with the only difference being that "Defend" takes over the "Flee" option.
  • Attack: Leads to a sole strike against a likewise sole adversary.
  • Competence: Permits you to use one of your special skills.
  • Defend: Allows you to defend against damage, decreasing the damage caused.
  • Objects: Will grant you access to the items you are currently carrying.
Competences
Competences are OFF's equivalent to special attacks, spells, etc. They vary significantly in terms of power and effects, depending on the particular character and situation. The competences of most main characters and guardians each tend to revolve around a theme or motif. Each competence costs a certain amount of competence points, and once your CP is completely consumed, it will be impossible to use any of your competences. Unlike the Batter's competences, all of the attacks of the Judge have a 100% hit rate, which we will discuss soon..
  • Conniving Aneurysm: An attack competence of low impact.
  • Malicious Aneurysm: An attack competence of mediocre impact.
  • Aneurysm Rupture: An attack competence of important impact. Costs a notable sum of competence points.
  • Critical Aneurysm: An attack competence of massive impact. Costs a hefty sum of competence points.
  • Unknown Sclerosis: Afflicts the enemy with muteness, preventing the use of any special abilities also lowering their DFS.
  • Atypical Sclerosis: Afflicts the enemy with blindness, causing the target to have great difficulty hitting their opponent.
  • Purulent Sclerosis: afflicts the enemy with poison, continuously dealing them damage that ignores their armor and durability.
  • Staggering Sclerosis: afflicts the enemy with Palsy, paralyzing enemies and preventing them from taking actions and also lowers their CP.
Teleportation
The Judge can seemingly teleport, appearing in places he never entered or where travel by walking is impossible. similarly to other guardians who also have this ability.

Non-Physical Interaction
The Judge can interact with the add-ons of the Batter which are made of spiritual matter.

4th Wall Awareness
The Judge is fully aware of the player's existence and control over the Batter, acknowledging the player as the "puppet master." As well as knowing of the Player even before he downloads he game.

Resistances
Sans
Extreme Heat and Extreme Cold: Can survive in Hotland, which can reach temperatures high enough to vaporize water instantly. Also lives in Snowdin, where the snow is so cold that it does not melt from Hotland's heat. And obviously skeletons have no skin, duh.

Soul Manipulation: As the bodies of the monsters are made of magic and directly linked to their SOUL, they should be able to take SOUL attacks as physical ones.

Biological Manipulation: Due to the bodies of monsters being made of mostly magic.

Poison: Monsters can stay indefinitely at the CORE, which is seemingly filled with ozone.

Radiation: Monsters are able to drink gamerblood energy, a drink made of radioactive waste.

Necromancy: As the body of a monster is made of magic, it is attuned to their SOUL. Because of this, they do not leave a corpse at their death, instead turning to dust, and their SOULs also do not last after dying but just disappear.

The Judge

Reality Warping: Completely unaffected by purification and was with the Batter when zone 2 was purified. Purification can cause those within it to disappear, with the men living within 'falling into nothingness, never to return.

Scaling
Sans
Monsters
Okay, I hear you. "Sans is the weakest monster; he shouldn't scale to anyone" and while that's true, there is one thing that, without a shadow of a doubt, Sans should scale to. Speed, being one of the only monsters to actually be able to dodge Frisk instead of standing there like an idiot. Not to mention he does scale to a few physically weaker monsters who have lower stats.
Frisk
Sans should scale to Frisk due to pretty much the same reasons he scales to other monsters. Sans is also stronger than a low-determination Frisk who has 0 AT and 0 DF.
The Judge
The Batter
The Judge directly fought The Batter and should pretty obviously scale to him; he even beat him depending on the ending you get.
The Guardians
The Guardians are the survivors of the previous world, chosen by the Queen to create new countries in their new world, with Pablo also being one of them and being the one to put an end to the Batter in the special ending (who killed the Guardians).
Before the Verdict
"Sans needs his opponent to be evil to actully put up a fight"
So, one of the most popular misconceptions out there is that Sans needs his opponent to be an evil person or to have LOVE to actually be able to do shit. Mostly due to his stats in-game and the fact he only does one of damage. Sans does not require an opponent to be a threat to the world to fight. Although it may appear like that, he actually would have killed Frisk the moment he saw them if not for the promise he made to Toriel. Even though Frisk didn't harm a fly. But what about KARMA? would that need you to be slightly more malicious to work?

Well, the sins thing is fanon and never directly confirmed, even though technically there is really good evidence for it, at the end of the day it's just a theory, A GAME THEO-.  but even if we do decide to interpret karma in this way, that still doesn't mean he would become a fraud if he ever fought a sinless person. As we have seen, he's clearly not a one-trick pony...I mean...skeleton. (More about Karma later in the verdicts btw.)

Undertale and Durability Negation
It seems like a pretty obvious thing all Undertale characters have at first, since they specifically target the soul, but I feel like the debate is a bit more complicated than that. Monsters have soul manipulation; that much is clear, and they do attack it. But I'm not sure if they can dura neg someone just by attacking their soul. So, I can see monster food being able to heal the soul; it's magic, after all. But why does a bandaid heal you? I mean, there's no real magic involved; you are just putting a normal bandaid on you and healing a small amount of HP, which shouldn't heal the soul.

There's also the armor Frisk wears, which is mostly normal clothes from other humans, one of the main arguments i see is that the armor can defend the soul, which, i don't think is much of a stretch. Ribbons, aprons and tutus wouldn't work as armor and they still raise your DEF, not to mention there's quite a few pieces of  flavor text that support the armor being mostly connected with intent to kill which is a big thing in Undertale. Another thing to mention is that Sans's KR affects can actually be slightly negated by armor such as the dusty notebook and the cloudy glasses. So if you don't think the armor is protecting the soul, it's possible someone's raw durability could make KR way less effective.

So TL;DR: while i do feel like Undertale having Dura Neg through attacking the soul is a bit questionable, you can definitely make arguments for it being valid. It is something that is very up for debate and may vary from person to person depending on who you ask. There are a lot of factors to consider on Sans's dura neg, It is possible that not everyone working on this blog will buy it but i'm mostly leaning in Dura Neg being legit.

How would game mechanics even work in a matchup like this?
So we are finally on what i think will be considered a bit of a controversial take in this blog, making game mechanics essential for the debate. But let me explain. We spent a few minutes thinking about a way to fit the mechanics of both games into the debate because of their canonicity in their respective games. Which is something I'm surprised doesn't get mentioned much in Sans vs. Judge debates. One of the first ideas was making several different verdicts for several different rule sets (with Undertale rules, with OFF rules, with no rules), but we realized pretty quickly that the idea was kind of stupid, so we were able to reach a conclusion.

Both Sans and The Judge will be fighting with their own game mechanics; basically, The Judge would fight Sans as if it were an OFF battle, while Sans would fight Judge as if he were his usual Undertale boss self. This is the most fair way to look at it, as since the mechanics are canon to both, it wouldn't feel right to force one to play by the other's rules. Which basically means Sans has to play with turns while the judge just needs to wait a cooldown.

Do The Guardians scale to the creation of the Zones?
Yes. i won't bore you with an explanation, Go read the DBE Batter Blog, it's a good one and it touches on some information about OFF Scaling that we won't go over here due to not being very important for Sans vs Judge.

Competences 100% Hit Rate
Now at first glance it seems like an unfair assumption. Yeah, his attacks are guaranteed to hit in the context of OFF, but wouldn't it be a no-limits fallacy to assume he hits anything no matter what? Well, it's a bit more complicated than that:

Considering how the competences are named (every one of them has "aneurysm" and "sclerosis" in the title), it's likely that these competences are biologically induced (which is backed up by the fact that the animation for them materializes on the target directly). As such, it's technically not a no-limits fallacy; he's just attacking your body directly. Also, they work on spiritual bodies like the add-ons, so Sans can't get out of it by just being a monster. So, yes, this is fine.

The Messiness of OFF Speed Feats
Oh boy...now moving on to the part of this matchup that everyone hates to debate, speed. Starting off simple, so, most of the low-end speed feats are fine, giving us a solid Mach 4 Judge. But things get a bit messy when it comes to relativistic OFF, so Pablo explains that the nothingness is a place where you can travel at the speed of light, and he doesn't mention that your reaction speed gets buffed either, pretty cut and dry, right? Not exactly; let's go over the debunks and the counters.

"Pablo talks with flowery language all the time, so it's possible he was exaggerating." This one seems entirely fair at first glance, but I have one fatal flaw with it. Taking the original dialogue (“Le néant est un lieu de transition, un endroit hors de l'espace réel, où tu pourras voyager d'un point à l'autre à la vitesse de la lumière.”) and running it through DeepL, we get, "Nothingness is a place of transition, a place outside real space, where you can travel from one point to another at the speed of light."

The phrasing used in the original material already makes it seem like Pablo wasn't exaggerating; he actually is talking rather normally here. Assuming the debunk to be true, the only thing Pablo would be exaggerating is the lightspeed statement, specifically because he talks normally for the rest of the statement. That, combined with the fact that we don't have anything that could contradict or prove that Pablo was exaggerating, kind of kills this one for me.

"Pablo was talking about the animation that takes you there, not moving inside the nothingness itself." I would go over it myself, but this blog counters it better than I ever could.  Those are the two most prominent debunks to my knowledge, and I personally don't agree with them and think you can 100% make a case for relativistic OFF.

Now, moving on to FTL OFF, the argument here is that since Vader Eloha (the Queen) lives in and can send energy from the sun and Omega has an attack called Photographic Blur, those attacks should be light-based. There are...issues with this, to put it mildly.  Starting with the Queen, she never physically attacks you with any kind of energy; all of her attacks are just insulting you so hard you take damage. There's no light energy being fired, no physical attack; it's literally just her insulting the Batter.

As for Photographic Blur, there's not exactly much in the way of assuming the name is literal; however, there's one fatal issue that buries it. Photographic Blur is 100% accurate; it physically can't miss, no one can dodge it, so no one could scale to its speed.  In fact, the Queen Meta has this same problem too! Even assuming she and her add-ons were firing light attacks, you can't dodge them; they're 100% accurate.  In conclusion, this one just doesn't work. So let's jump into possibly the most infamous feat.

So in the Room, to reach the Queen, the Batter has to go to the Sun (which is implied to be real) because that's where she's located, and he presumably actually makes the travel rather than just teleporting there because no animation for teleporting occurs. GG, right? No...

The entire place is WAAAAY too abstract to take this feat literally; every part of the Room takes place on a different day and month (along with the chapter count going backwards). Certain elements of the map are contradicted by the Queen's boss fight, and are we seriously meant to assume the Batter could just fly this whole time?! Yeaaah, I'm not buying it lol.

Anyways, that should be everything. There are some immeasurable OFF arguments but they are pretty shitty and were covered in The Batter DBE Blog already. So where does that leave us?

Supersonic+ with Relativistic+ reactions and combat speed. Not bad...

Weakness
Sans
Although he can fight for a relatively long time, Sans has shown signs of tiring very easily, such as sweating, heavy breathing, and eventually beginning to fall asleep, since, like most monsters, using magic can be exhausting. Speaking of fighting, Sans will only fight if absolutely necessary, and if a monster fights a foe with a strong SOUL and murderous intent or if they do not have a desire to kill their opponent, their defenses will weaken.

The Judge
The Judge Has a limited pool of competence points with which to use competences if that pool ever runs out, the Judge will need to resort to normal attacks. But besides this? not many weaknesses besides being a bit too esay to trick and overconfident.

Verdict

_GhostOfHollownest_
So...small fun fact, this blog was supposed to come out, uh...last month. But my procrastination and laziness got in the way. Well, at least it fits the theme of the matchup, eh?

Stats
It dosen't really take a genius to know the difference in AP is not even close, even if we scaled Sans to other monsters in AP and durability (which we choose not to in this blog) it would barely make a difference, he would still get oneshoted by Pablo's weakest attacks. 18.55 Petatons vs 6.4 Tons is just...wow, and that's without star level OFF, which we didn't even touch on.

With speed, things start to get complicated since Sans could probably beat Pablo in a straight-up race, let's be honest here, (Mach 3848.4 vs Mach 2.2). But when it comes to combat and reaction? Pablo dominates, (0.64c)Which one is more important? We will get into that soon.

As for durability? The Judge should still take it. They both should scale to their AP, so it's not like it matters.

Hax and Equipment
Hax is actually a very interesting discussion when it comes to these two. Now, Sans should take numbers. He's surprisingly versatile, but we all know the question you all have been asking: would karma work on the judge? I think so. Now, even if we do go by the fanon explanation, the Judge still has some blood on his paws. It is never specified how bad someone needs to be, and I'd say helping someone destroy the universe, even though he realized his mistakes later, is pretty bad. So yes, it would work, but it's not like it matters since Sans Dura Neg would kill Pablo in a few hits. It also helps that Pablo wouldn't have time to use a competence with bones flying everywhere, so game mechanics are also on his side even if Pablo doesn't have to play turns. Of course, if he does get the chance to use it, there's basically nothing Sans can do, and Pablo's teleportation would help him keep out of harm's way. But still, I have to give this point to Sans.

Equipment, however, is much easier. While Saturday could potentially negate karma, it's not like it matters since the Judge would only have 20 HP. The same goes for the healing items and defensive equipment. Gaster Blasters, on the other hand, are straight-up monsters who can chip away at the Judge's health quickly.

Intelligence and Experience
Sans is...all things considered, a genius. The Judge isn't dumb or anything, but Sans is on a whole other level. While both have knowledge and an understanding of how their world operates, Sans was able to find that out on his own, while the Judge seemingly just knew, with Sans even being able to conduct research on timelines. There's also the fact Sans works very closely with Alphys, even knowing about her amalgamates.

Experience is yet another clear-cut win. The Judge doesn't really have much when it comes to experience. And while both only choose to go all out once, we know Sans, at least, fought Flowey in one of the previous resets. Sans is also a member of the royal guard, so it's also likely he received SOME kind of training. Unlike The Judge.

Resistances
Their resistances are not of much use in this battle, as we have explained biological manipulation resistance isn't saving Sans from a competence, and while poison could technically be useful, Sans would die in one hit anyways, so it's not like it matters which competence is used. I suppose resistances don't matter much in this matchup.

Wincons
And finally, wincons: there are many factors to consider here, but the main two are, do you think Sans has dura neg? If dosen't, this basically becomes a no-diff fight since he wouldn't be able to harm the Judge even if he hit every attack. And if he does have dura neg, that creates a second question: can the Judge survive the first attack? If he does, he basically just wins. So, he can't exactly move out of the way; he's WAAAY slower when it comes to movement speed, so he's screwed, right? Well, since he can react to the attacks but not move out of the way, that leaves another option...teleportation. While in the original game there's a bit of a delay, the remake made teleportation instantaneous, and since The Judge would react to Sans's attacks so much faster, he would have no problem just teleporting out of danger. The fact that the Judge's attacks are pretty much unavoidable and the fact that teleportation makes up for his slower movement speed makes me give him the win in wincons.

Final Thoughts..
Unlike what some people believe, this matchup is ridiculously close. Before writing the verdict, I changed my vote two times, but after some thinking,. I have to go with The Judge. Sure, Dura Neg would definitely kill him pretty easily, and if he messes up the teleportation once, he's pretty much dead. But the fact he only has to survive one turn to win is just too useful to pass on, while Sans was definitely a determined foe, in the end, he had to eat his own dust.

Advantages and Disadvantages
Sans

Advantages:
  • Faster movement speed
  • Dura Neg makes the gap in durability non-existent
  • Smarter
  • More experienced
  • More benefited by game mechanics
  • Stronger than you is a bop, y'all just mean
Disadvantages:
  • Way weaker and less durable
  • Slower reaction and combat speed
  • Low Stamina
  • If Pablo dodges his first attack, Sans is pretty much dead
  • The 2016 - 2017 undertale fandom really destroyed his reputation
The Judge

Advantages:
  • Way stronger and more durable
  • Fast enough to react to Sans attacks
  • Only needs to survive one turn to win
  • Competences will always hit no matter what
  • Teleportation would be a massive help
  • Saturday could potentially negate karma
  • Cuter :3
Disadvantages:
  • But that dosen't matter since he has no resistance against Dura Neg
  • Using competences during one of Sans attacks is a massive risk
  • Dumber
  • Less experienced
  • Has a limited pool of competence points
  • Overconfident
Final Tally
Sans (0)

The Judge (4): _GhostOfHollownest_, Fnaf fan_1234, Blue Yoshi, Battlegrounds
